Today we also welcomed our new teachers for a day-long session aimed at helping them get up to speed on practicalities such as our payroll system, safe classroom set-up, AUSD technology and devices, and taking advantage of AUSD benefits, as well as AUSD's commitment to equity and positive school climates. Welcome, teachers! We're thrilled that you have joined us and look forward to getting to know you! (Also, we're super happy to see some of you bicycled to the session. Alameda has great bike paths!) #wearealamedaunified

Superintendent Scuderi kicked off our first formal day with school administrators with an inspiring talk about the power of collective values and action across complex organizations and the need to balance strategy with thoughtful responses to emergent conditions. Welcome back, administrators! We're ready for 2025-26! #wearealamedaunified

AHS senior Sunny Xu has set up a remarkable peer tutoring program for English Learners at her school. Through the program, students who are learning English can get help from students who speak their language. This provides crucial academic supports - as well as very real social and emotional benefits to the students who attend. A big thank you to Alameda Green Schoolyards for using a grant from California ReLeaf to procure seven new trees for the kindergarten yard at Ruby Bridges Elementary School. “We are here to help you improve your schoolyard by planting trees to create shade, nurture your health, bring joy, support your environmental learning, and help you build climate resilience,” Meg Amarasiriwardena, a founding member of Alameda Green Schoolyards told the children. The planting ceremony included lessons on planting and caring for the new olive and autumn blaze maple trees, plus plenty of opportunities for hands-on learning! #WeAreAlamedaUnified
